Stress. Everyone has it. Today, with the demands of family, work, and daily tasks people are busier than ever. We need a certain amount of stress to grow and learn. Our bodies are amazing at compensating for stress.
It is when stress becomes internalized and held inside the body rather than released, that the problems can begin emotionally and physically. Stress has been shown to aggravate, or even cause, such problems as anxiety, headaches, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and decreased immune function.
Massage therapy can be one of the best remedies for stress. Massage boosts the body's immune system, which can become compromised from prolonged periods of stress. Tension builds up in the muscles, causing a decrease in oxygen rich blood circulation and nutrient delivery to the tissues. This in turn, can lead to pain and muscle dysfunction. Manipulation of the soft tissue (muscle) can have profound effects to reverse the muscle discomfort you are feeling. Some of the physiological benefits of massage are: it stimulates blood circulation, improving the elimination of waste products in the muscles, increases the flow of oxygen and nutrients to cells and tissues, releases endorphins which are the body's natural painkiller into the body, increases joint mobility, range of motion and flexibility to tight sore muscles, and lowers blood pressure.
Psychologically and emotionally massage: reduces anxiety, induces mental relaxation and calms temper, reduces mental stress, improves concentration, and increases awareness of the mind- body connection.
